Transport of NCL Applications over the Digital Radio Mondiale Broadcasting System for Ginga-enabled receivers: Signaling and Definitions
نویسنده
چکیده
ISDB-T International standard is currently adopted by most Latin America countries and is already installed in most TV sets sold in recent years in the region. To support interactive applications in Digital TV receivers, ISDBT defines the middleware Ginga and its declarative language NCL (Nested Context Language). Similar to Digital TV, Digital Radio standards also provide the means to carry interactive applications; however, their specifications for interactive applications are usually more restricted than the ones used in Digital TV. Also, interactive applications for Digital TV and Digital Radio are usually incompatible. Motivated by such observations, this report considers the importance of interactive applications for both TV and Radio Broadcasting and the advantages of using the same middleware and language specification for Digital TV and Radio. More specifically, it establishes the signaling and definitions on how to transport and execute NCL (Nested Context Language) applications over DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) transmission. Brazil is carrying trials with Digital Radio Mondiale standard in order to evaluate the best system to be used as reference for the Brazilian Digital Radio System.

Ginga-NCL: Relating Imperative, Declarative and Media Objects
The process of developing a declarative middleware for interactive digital TV systems presents significant challenges. The main goal of this PhD thesis is to propose and to develop an NCL presentation environment for interactive digital TV systems. As one of its by-product, a declarative middleware named Ginga-NCL was developed, becoming the reference implementation of the Brazilian Terrestrial...
متن کاملDigital Radio Mondiale ( DRM ) DIGITAL RADIO MONDIALE DRM LOCAL COVERAGE USING THE 26 MHz BROADCASTING BAND
This document reports on a carefully designed set of fixed and mobile reception tests in Mexico City on the DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) system at a frequency in the uppermost shortwave broadcasting band – around 26 MHz – for local broadcasting. The testing was done during July 2005. These were not operational tests; that is, neither the transmitter antenna, nor antenna location, nor transmitte...
متن کاملDigital Radio Mondiale
Digital Radio Mondiale is a system which promises to re-invigorate the use of the broadcasting bands below 30 MHz. It offers a dramatic improvement in audio quality, not only improving the audio bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio, but also countering the effects of selective fading and audible interference from other stations. It is also designed to support various features that will make rece...
متن کاملRobust Sampling Frequency Offset Estimation for OFDM over Frequency Selective Fading Channels
Digital radio mondiale (DRM) is a terrestrial radio broadcasting standard to replace existing analogue AM and FM broadcasting, which is based on an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique. This paper focuses on the issue of estimating a sampling frequency offset (SFO) in OFDM-based broadcasting systems under frequency selective fading channels. In order to design a robust SF...
متن کاملA Component-Based Architecture for Ginga
This paper discusses how component-driven development can be used in the design of the Ginga middleware architecture, including its Ginga-NCL presentation module. Presentation engines have an important facility, since they allow for previewing when each specific media player is needed. Therefore, to maintain temporal consistency during application presentations, instantiation time of media play...
